A New Approach to Teaching Rhythm Literacy

TunyStones Rhythm is a research-informed approach to teaching rhythm literacy through movement, sound, and immediate feedback. By combining music-making with interactive technology, the app enables students to develop rhythmic understanding in an intuitive, engaging and physically active way.

Designed specifically for music education in schools and music schools, TunyStones Rhythm supports the development of rhythm skills, coordination and creativity while making learning enjoyable for every student.

The method was developed by music educators at the Basel Academy of Music (FHNW) and trusted by thousands of music teachers.

TEACHING APPROACH

TunyStones Rhythm is an effective teaching and learning tool that systematically develops rhythm skills and literacy through three progressively structured rhythm worlds.

The first world establishes essential musical knowledge and skills using our non-verbal teaching method.

The second world is ideal for ensemble playing or two-handed performance and specifically develops coordination skills.

The third world encourages students to create their own rhythm compositions, fostering creativity and musical expression.

FOR SCHOOLS

The app is available through Apple School Manager. Please make sure to select the school version: TunyStones Rhythm for Schools. Only this version offers one-time purchases and educational volume discounts compatible with Apple School Manager.

Using a different platform?

We’d still love to hear from you. As we expand the TunyStones Pioneer Schools programme, we’re exploring additional deployment options for schools using other device management systems.

RESEARCH-BASED

TunyStones Rhythm is part of the TunyStones app family, developed from research at the Basel Academy of Music (FHNW) and further developed by Swiss MusicLab, an Innosuisse-certified Swiss startup.
